Alert! Did you know that self-care is more than just a face mask?

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word self-care ? Of course, you're thinking that you should take care of how your hair looks, how your skin looks, how your nails look, and maybe your smell and other things. But is this only what it means to take care of yourself ! of course not. Over the years, everyone has reduced the concept of self-care to those outward things such as hair, skin, etc., and no one has ever told us that self-care is more than just a face mask , and we may not be exaggerating if we tell you that it includes a set of countless actions.

We know you're wondering now what we're telling you, but believe me, we're here to unveil a lot of superficial notions of things we've been handed down without further research or understanding. So we think it's time to understand the true meaning of self-care ...

Watch out... Self-care is more than just a face mask!

First: What does self-care mean?

As we told you, the concept of self-care is broad and comprehensive and includes several aspects...

For example, in 1983 the World Health Organization defined self-care as "the capacity of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and manage illness and disability with or without the support of a health care provider".

In 2003, the NHS defined it as 'part of everyday life. It is the concern that individuals place on their health and well-being, and includes the care given to their children, families, friends and others in neighborhoods and communities. Self-care includes the actions that individuals and caregivers take to themselves, their children, families and others to keep fit Maintaining good physical and mental health ; meeting social and psychological needs ; preventing illness or accidents; caring for minor illnesses and long-term conditions; and maintaining health and wellness after acute illness or discharge from hospital.

While mental health organizations define it as “the ability of an individual to maintain his psychological peace, and to make himself happy.”

From these previous definitions, it became clear that the concept of "self-care" includes many aspects, including physical, psychological and mental. In fact, until today, studies of the true meaning of the concept of "self-care" have not stopped, especially after this concept has gained great popularity since 2015, topping Google search engines at this time. But in any case, everyone agreed that it is an individual's ability to remain physically and psychologically in good health.

Second: What are the types of self-care?

If taking care of oneself means staying in good psychological, mental and physical condition. It is simply anything you can give yourself to achieve these three goals. But if you're looking for something that makes things a little easier, here it is...

1- Emotional self-care

Taking care of your mental and emotional health means taking care of your feelings and emotions. This means staying away from everything that annoys you or irritates you and makes you nervous, and choose those things that comfort you and make you happy and in a better psychological state.

2- Take care of yourself physically

If you are striving to achieve the goal of physical health , this requires you to take care of your body, from choosing the right diet to carrying out the necessary medical examinations. More clearly it is anything you do for your body, so that it does not complain or suffer.

3- Taking care of the spiritual self

Personally, I believe that nurturing and caring for the soul is reflected in the physical, psychological and mental current. You can choose what makes your soul better, whether it is with prayer, meditation, and more.

Third: How do I start taking care of myself?

I know that after it has become a lot of things, you may find it messy and not know where to start, but let me tell you that caring for yourself has some rules and foundations that if you put it as a principle in your life, everything will become easier later...

1- Avoid anything dangerous or harmful to you

If you decide to start taking care of yourself, put this rule before your eyes. Simply because it will help you with a lot of things. For example, smoking is dangerous and negatively affects your health, so it should be listed among the things that should be avoided. Constant noise makes you nervous and loses focus, so it hurts you. It should also be put on the same list as before, and so on. Once you set this rule, you can make a list of many, many things that are harmful to you and that you should stop. This is always the first step.

2- Research, experiment, observation, and self-discovery

We always tell you that you need to continually search deep within yourself, to discover more about your personality, body and mind. This is the rule in self-care. You can't know what makes you happy if you don't look for things and then try them and then watch yourself and how you feel and here you find out if they make you happy or not. The same with food, you cannot know which type of food gives more energy and activity without others, without research, then experiment, then monitoring your performance after this meal and finally discovering yourself and how it is affected by this food, and so on.

3- Listen to your inner voice

If yoga makes you happy , does this mean that you must enjoy practicing every day?! of course not. As humans, our preferences change based on our moods and moods. Even our body occasionally reacts differently to food. The food that used to comfort you in the past, now disturbs your colon, and so on. So always listen to your inner voice, what your self is telling you, and what it is really asking of you. Just like you would take care of a little baby. You listen carefully to him to understand what he wants, and this is exactly what you yourself need from you.

If you are still confused and looking for things or ideas to interest yourself, here is the next…

1- Forgive yourself for your mistakes and work to correct them.

2- Give yourself a break whenever you want, this is not a luxury.

3- Don't stress yourself out, ask for help when you need it.

4- Music makes you happy? Well, make your favorite songs list.

5- Be alone when you want to.

6- Do you want a massage session? Do it right away.

7- Reward yourself with a delicious meal.

8- Stay away from those who annoy you.

9- Spend time in nature.

10- Sleep for enough hours every day.

11- Give your skin, hair and body some pampering.

Of course, these aren't the only things you can do to take care of yourself. But there really are forms and methods, and each one of us chooses what suits him best. Now, we think it's time to give ourselves enough attention.
